SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall baseball team was hindered by four errors, which led to three unearned runs, and dropped the series finale to LIU-Brooklyn, 6-3, on Sunday.
A pair of errors in the top of the second inning resulted in the Blackbirds taking a 2-0 lead against Seton Hall starter Zach Prendergast (Horsham, Pa.). The Hall got a run back in the bottom of the second inning, but LIU extended its lead to 3-1 in the top of the third.
The Pirates rallied with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game. Rob Dadona (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled, Chris Chiaradio (Teaneck, N.J.) walked, and the duo advanced on a double steal. On the play, a throwing error by the Blackbird catcher allowed Dadona to score the Pirates' second run. Derek Jenkins (Annandale, N.J.) followed with an RBI single to tie the game at three.
Turning Point:
The tie however, didn't last long. With one out in the top of the sixth inning, back-to-back doubles by Kyle Ruth and Andrew turner put the Blackbirds in front for good, 4-3. LIU tacked on insurance runs in the top of the eighth and ninth innings.
Inside the Numbers:
- Chiaradio and Matt Fortin (Nashua, N.H.) were the lone Pirates to reach base twice.
- Sophomore Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J.) clubbed his eighth double of the season, to tie for the team lead.
- Prendergast took the loss with 5.1 innings, two earned runs, five strikeouts and one walk. He falls to 4-4.
- Senior Sam Burum (Robbinsville, N.J.) retired all five batters he faced in relief with two strikeouts.
- Sophomore Andrew Politi (Long Valley, N.J.) pitched a clean ninth inning.
- Chiaradio stole two bases today and now has a career-high 17 on the season.
- Seton Hall left four men on base, while LIU-Brooklyn left six.
News & Notes:
- The Pirates fall to 15-2 at home this season.
- Seton Hall falls to 25-8 all-time against the Blackbirds.

Seton Hall will return to action on Tuesday, April 19 when it hosts in-state rival Monmouth at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.
