BETHESDA, MD. -- Junior Zach Prendergast (Horsham, Pa.) allowed just one unearned run over six innings, but it was all the offense Georgetown needed as the Seton Hall baseball team fell, 1-0, in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
Prendergast struck out six and walked three, while taking the hard-luck loss to drop to 4-5 on the season.
Turning Point:
With the game still scoreless heading to the bottom of the sixth, a pair of Seton Hall throwing errors proved costly for Prendergast. With one out, Georgetown's Charlie Dillon reached base on a throwing error by third baseman Joe Poduslenko. A bunt single moved Dillon to second. Ryan Weisenberg followed with a ground ball to third. Poduslenko got the force out at second base, but Rob Dadona threw wide of first base trying to turn the double play. The error allowed Dillon to score the game's lone run.
Seton Hall (31-13, 5-3) stranded four runners in scoring position over the final three innings. In the ninth, Mikael-Ali Mogues (New York, N.Y.) led off with a double, and a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) advanced pinch runner Liam McArthur (Basking Ridge, N.J.) to third with one out. However, Seton Hall stranded the tying run 90 feet away as Georgetown starter Simon Mathews finished the complete-game shutout.
Inside the Numbers:
- Mogues led the Pirates offense, reaching base three times, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
- Sophomore Matt Leon (Bethlehem, Pa.) retired all six batters he faced in relief of Prendergast.
- Seton Hall left eight men on base, while Georgetown left nine.
News & Notes:
- Seton Hall leads the nation in steals and ranks 11th in walks, but mustered just one steal and one walk vs. Georgetown in game one of today's double-header.
- It's the first time this season that Seton Hall has been shut out.
- Seton Hall falls to 80-26 all-time against the Hoyas.
- The Pirates are now 10-2 this season in one-run games.
