SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – Sophomore Cullen Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.) didn't allow an earned run over 6.1 innings, but the Seton Hall baseball team lost a pitcher's duel to Oregon, 1-0, early on Saturday during the Tony Gwynn Classic.

Dana was matching Oregon starter Matt Mercer inning-by-inning as neither team's offense was able to break though.

Turning Point:
In the bottom of the seventh inning, a throwing error by Joe Poduslenko allowed Oregon's Matthew Dyer to reach base. After Dana walked the next batter, senior Ryan Testani entered the game in relief. Testani hit the Ducks' Daniel Patzlaff, which loaded the bases. Left-hander Anthony Pacillo entered in relief and walked Oregon's Kyle Kasser to force in the game's lone run. Pacillo then retired the next two batters with the bases loaded to prevent further damage.

Inside the Numbers:

Dana took the hard-luck loss. He gave up just three hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
Both teams mustered only three hits.
Jackson Martin (Collegeville, Pa.), Al Molina (Freehold, N.J.) and Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) collected hits for the Pirates.
Seton Hall left two men on base, while Oregon left eight.

News & Notes:

Seton Hall was shut out for the first time since losing at Georgetown on April 30, 2016.
This was the first-ever meeting between Seton Hall and Oregon.
