GAINESVILLE, FLA. – Senior Ryan Testani (Shelton, Conn) tossed six scoreless innings of relief as the Seton Hall baseball team rallied to defeat No. 2 Florida, 3-2, in 13 innings in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Seton Hall got off to a quick start with a run in the top of the first inning on a two-out RBI single by Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.). Florida however, rallied with single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings off Pirate starter Zach Prendergast (Horsham, Pa.).
Turning Point:
With one out in the top of the ninth, Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) drew a walk and advanced to third on another single by Ramiz. Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.J.) followed with a perfect bunt towards first base, and the safety-squeeze play allowed Poduslenko to score with the tying run.
While Testani dazzled in relief, Seton Hall's offense went back to work in the top of the 13th inning. Rob Dadona (Staten Island, N.Y.) led off with a single and moved to second on a successful sacrifice by Al Molina (Freehold, N.J.). After Dadona stole third base, Caputo delivered a sacrifice fly to left field, which scored Dadona with the go-ahead run.
Inside the Numbers:
- Prendergast got a no decision in a quality start. The right-hander pitched six innings and allowed two earned runs, while striking out five batters and not issuing a walk.
- Testani allowed only three hits over six innings to earn the victory.
- Ramiz reached base four times, going 3-for-5 with a walk and an RBI.
- Senior Anthony Pacillo (Lyndhurst, N.J.) earned the save with a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts.
- Poduslenko walked three times.
- Dadona went 2-for-5 with a walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored.
- Matt Fortin (Nashua, N.H.) went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles.
- Seton Hall left nine men on base, while Florida left 11.
- Seton Hall reached at least 10 hits in a game for the sixth time this season.
- The Pirates didn't commit an error for only the third time this season.
- Testani now has 15.0 innings pitched this year, which is more than his entire sophomore and junior seasons.
- Caputo drove in the tying and winning runs despite going 0-for-4 in the game.
- The Pirates turned two double plays for the second time this season.
