SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Mikael-Ali Mogues (New York, N.Y.) and Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J.) combined for four hits and five RBIs as the Seton Hall baseball team downed Butler, 7-1, on Saturday to even the series.
Senior Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) led off the bottom of the first inning with a single to left field. He then reached second on a passed ball and third base on a balk. Mogues drove him in with the game's first run on an RBI fielder's choice.
In the top of the third inning, Butler struck back with a run off Seton Hall starter Cullen Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.). The Pirate left-hander allowed a one-out solo home run to Tyler Houston, but settled down afterward. Dana seemed to get better as the game went on and earned the victory with six strong innings.
Turning Point:
With the game tied at one, the Pirates took the lead for good in the bottom of the third. With one out, Matt Fortin (Nashua, N.H.) singled through the right side. Mogues followed with a singled to center field, and Alescio drove them both in with a triple into the left field corner. Freshman Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.) then delivered a sacrifice fly, which scored Alescio to give The Hall a 4-1 advantage.
