Seton Hall Bats Fall Silent in 4-1 Loss to Butler

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Junior Al Molina (Freehold, N.J.) reached base three times and senior Ryan Testani (Shelton Conn.) was brilliant again in relief, but the Seton Hall baseball team dropped the series finale to Butler, 4-1, on Sunday.
Seton Hall (15-14, 1-2) never led as Butler grabbed an early lead off Pirate starter Shane McCarthy (Fair Haven, N.J.) with a single run in the top of the second inning. In the top of the fourth inning, the Bulldogs scored two more times to take a 3-0 advantage. None of the three Butler runs were scored on a hit. Two runs were scored via sacrifice fly and another on a wild pitch.
The Pirates finally broke through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI ground out by freshman Connor Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa.), but weren't able to push across any more runs.
Inside the Numbers:
- McCarthy took the loss, allowing three runs over four innings. He allowed only four hits.
- Molina finished 2-for-3 with a walk.
- Testani tossed three scoreless innings, allowing only three hits.
- Seton Hall left nine men on base, while Butler left six.
- The Hall has now dropped the opening BIG EAST series in eight straight seasons.
- Seton Hall has committed more than one error only once in its last 11 games.
- The Pirates have committed zero errors in a game eight times and three of their last four games.
- The Hall has left at least nine men on base in seven of their last nine games and four straight.
- Seton Hall falls to 6-6 all-time against Butler.
Seton Hall will return to action next Thursday, April 13 when they begin a three-game series in Cincinnati, Ohio against Xavier. First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET. The game will carry a national telecast on Fox Sports 1.
