5/1/2017 5:30:00 PM | Men's Golf
CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. – Senior Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) fired a 2-under-par, 70, in round two of the BIG EAST Championship and the Seton Hall men's golf team moved up to second place on Monday.
Go shaved six strokes off his first round score to make his move up the player leader board. He birdied three of his first six holes on Monday to set the pace early and register the Pirates' low score. It was Go's 44th career sub-par round, which adds to his career Seton Hall record.
For the tournament, Go is 2-over-par with a 76-70-146 and is in sixth place overall. He trails a three-way tie atop of the individual scoreboard by just two strokes.
Collectively, the Pirates shot five strokes better in round two, registering an 11-over-par, 299. They improved from a third place tie after round one to second place through 36 holes. Currently, The Hall is 27-over-par with a 304-299-596, and trails the team leader, DePaul, by seven strokes entering the championship's final 18 holes on Tuesday.
Whereas the Pirates struggled on the front nine in round one, they excelled during the first nine holes in round two. The Hall was 12-over-par on the front nine on Sunday, but was even-par at the turn today. Unfortunately, the Pirates faded late, but still improved five strokes overall.
The top Pirate golfer for the tournament continues to be Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines). The sophomore had his second straight stellar round, firing a 1-over-par, 73, on Monday. Nagai was consistent throughout the afternoon, registering three bogeys and two birdies. Through 36 holes, he is just 1-over-par with a 72-73-145. He is tied for fourth overall, just a single stroke behind DePaul's Jonathan Hewett, Butler's Joey Arcuri and Marquette's Matt Bachmann.
Chris Yeom (Flushing, N.Y.) improved five strokes in round two and finished with a 4-over-par, 76. The sophomore was excellent early on and was 1-under-par through 10 holes. Yeom was just 1-over-par through 16 holes, but had a rough finish, double-bogeying No. 17 and bogeying No. 18. Through two rounds, he is 13-over-par with an 81-76-157.
Freshman Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) was one stroke better on Monday, finishing with an 8-over-par, 80. Chalk was just 3-over-par through 12 holes, but bogeyed five of his final seven holes to finish the round. For the tournament he is 17-over-par with an 81-80-161.
Rounding out the Pirates' scoring today was Linus Yip (Sydney, Australia), who turned in a 9-over-par, 81. Yip was just 6-over-par, but struggled with the par-3, 15th hole, which he triple-bogeyed. Through two rounds, he is 12-over-par with a 75-81-156.
The wind was bad again today, but the field also had to deal with the occasional downpour. Despite periods of brief heavy rain, play was barely slowed and most scores improved.
