Pirates Fall in Home Finale to Monmouth

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Junior Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) collected three hits, but the Seton Hall baseball team fell to Monmouth, 7-2, in the 2017 Owen T. Carroll Field finale on Tuesday.
Seton Hall got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third inning. Ramiz doubled to right field with one out, and came in to score on a two-out RBI single by Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.).
Monmouth came back with single runs in the top of the fourth and seventh innings to take a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the seventh however, Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.J.) delivered a two-out double to left field to score Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Allendale, N.J.) to tie the game at two.
Turning Point:
In the top of the eighth inning, the Hawks sent nine men to the plate and used three hits and two Pirate errors to score five runs off relievers Matt Leon (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Ryan Testani (Shelton, Conn.). The big blow was a two-run double by Monmouth's Danny Long.
Inside the Numbers:
- Leon took the loss, allowing three earned runs.
- Ramiz went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
- Seton Hall starter Shane McCarthy (Fair Haven, N.J.) tossed three scoreless innings with four strikeouts and no walks in a no decision.

- Seton Hall left six men on base, while Monmouth left seven.
- With a hit today, Caputo needs just two more to reach the 100-hit career milestone.
- Today's relief appearance is the 61st of Testani's career, which ranks eighth in Seton Hall history.
- Today's relief appearance is the 58th of Leon's career, which passes former Pirate Chris Noonan for ninth place on the Seton Hall career list.
- Pacillo's appearance today is the 71st of his career, which ranks ninth all-time at Seton Hall.
- Seton Hall falls to 37-7-1 all-time against Monmouth.
Seton Hall will be back in action on Thursday, May 18 when it travels to Hammond, La. to begin a three-game series at Southeastern Louisiana University. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
