HAMMOND, LA. – The Seton Hall baseball team burst out for a season-high 16 runs on 15 hits in a 16-3 victory at Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday.
Four Pirates had at least three RBIs in a balanced offensive effort.
Southeastern Louisiana took a lead right away as Ryan Byers led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run off Seton Hall starter Chris Morris (Matawan, N.J.).
Turning Point:
In the top of the second, the Seton Hall offense erupted for six runs as 10 men came to the plate. Senior Matt Fortin (Nashua, N.H.) led off with a single. With one out, Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J.) walked and Sebastiano Santorelli (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled through the left side to load the bases. With two outs, Jackson Martin (Collegeville, Pa.) reached on an infield single, which scored Fortin with the tying run. Junior Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) followed with a double down the left field line to score two runs and give The Hall a 3-1 lead. Senior Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) then connected on a three-run home run to extend the Pirates advantage to 6-1.
The Lions cut the Pirate lead to 6-3, in the bottom of the second, but the Pirates broke the game open with 10 runs over the last three innings of the contest. Morris and four relievers combined to keep Southeastern Louisiana off the scoreboard over the final seven innings.
