
Pirates Fall to NJIT on Tuesday

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Rob Dadona (Staten Island, N.Y.) had three hits and Chris Villa (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a home run, but the Seton Hall baseball team fell to NJIT, 10-4, on Tuesday.
The Pirates never led in the game as NJIT struck for runs in three of the first four innings. The Hall used seven pitchers, but five allowed at least one run each.
NJIT scored four runs in the top of the second inning off Seton Hall starter Dylan Verdonk (Losser, Netherlands), three of which came on a three-run home run by Michael Anastasia. The Pirates cut the lead in half with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI triple by Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) and a passed ball, which enabled Ramiz to score.
The Highlanders padded their lead again with single runs in the top of the third and fourth inning, before erupting for three runs in the top of the sixth.

Seton Hall will return to action on Friday, April 27 when it begins a three-game series against BIG EAST rival Villanova at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

- Freshman Hunter Waldis (Far Hills, N.J.) pitched a perfect eighth inning and needed only 13 pitches to strike out the side.
- Freshman Ryan Lutz (Goshen, N.Y.) pitched a perfect ninth inning.
- Seton Hall had nine hits, while NJIT had 12. Seton Hall committed one error, while the Highlanders had none.
- Both teams left eight men on base.
- Verdonk took the loss, allowing four runs over two innings pitched.
- NJIT's Tommy Derer picked up the victory with three shutout innings of relief.
- The loss drops the Pirates to 17-15-1 overall, while NJIT improves to 17-16.
- Seton Hall is now 13-1 all-time against NJIT.
- The home run Villa today gives Seton Hall a total of 18 for the season. That's only one shy of Seton Hall's season total from 2017, and there are still 14 games remaining in the regular season.
