The Hall Splits On Day Two At North Texas

DENTON, Texas – The Seton Hall softball team (4-4) split two games on day two of the Mean Green Classic hosted by North Texas. The Pirates opened the day with a win over Northwestern State, then dropped a five-inning decision to the host Mean Green. Sophomore Payton Beaver (Lake Stevens, Wash.) homered in both games for The Hall.

How it Happened
- The Hall got on the board fast in the bottom of the first, with Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) opening the game with a double and scoring via another two-bagger from Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.)
- The Lady Demons equalized with a run in top of the second, but the Pirates answered quickly with two in the bottom of the frame by way of RBIs for Barracato and Pandolfo
- NSU got a run back in the top of the third and then even the score in the fifth inning
- In the bottom of the fifth, Beaver smacked a two-run home run that put the Pirates back on top
- Up 5-3, Kelsey Gumm (Spokane, Wash.) took over in the circle for the final two innings and fired a pair of scoreless frames to notch her third save
- The Pirates held an 11-8 edge in hits and committed three erros
- Pandolfo finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs, two doubles and a run scored
- Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) also had a multi-hit day for the Pirates and scored a run
- Mo Sobel (Newbury Parks, Calif.) took the ball and got the win with 5.0 solid innings in the circle, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks
- Four different Pirates drew a walk

How it Happened
- The host Mean Green came out of the chutes with seven runs in the bottom of the first, hitting a pair of home runs in the frame
- UNT would tack on seven more runs in the second and third innings
- Beaver got the Pirates on the board with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth, but that was all that The Hall could generate before the run-rule was enacted
- North Texas finished with a 14-1 edge in hits and both squads committed an error
- Barracato drew a walk for the Pirates
- Gumm did not allow an earned run over 2.0 innings of work
