Thompson goes seven full innings and allows only one earned run against the Trojans
LOS ANGELES – Despite a strong start on the mound from senior Noah Thompson (Frisco, Texas), the Seton Hall baseball team couldn't piece anything together offensively as the Pirates fell to USC, 3-0, on Saturday in Los Angeles.
Thompson (0-2) went seven full innings, allowed only one earned run and registered three strikeouts. Outside of the two errors, the Pirates (4-4) turned three double plays behind Thompson.
What Happened:
In the bottom of the second, USC led off with a double and the next batter reached on a throwing error by Thompson that put two runners on with no one out. The Trojans got on the board on an RBI double and then a sacrifice fly made it 2-0.
The Pirates picked up their first hits of the game in the top of the fourth from redshirt junior Christian Del Castillo (Miami, Fla.) and junior Casey Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.). However, both were left stranded.
Thompson locked in as he retired the side in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings before USC added to its lead in the eighth with an RBI double that made it 3-0.
