Pirates’ next stop on their West Coast spring break trip is Fresno State on Tuesday

LOS ANGELES – Junior Casey Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.) registered his third multi-hit game of the series, including his second home run in as many days, but the Seton Hall baseball team could not find an answer for the USC offense as the Trojans claimed the rubber match of the three-game series, 10-1, on Sunday in Los Angeles.

Senior Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Three Bridges, N.J.) went 2-for-4 with a walk while senior Connor Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa.) and redshirt junior Christian Del Castillo (Miami, Fla.) both registered doubles for the Pirates (4-5).

What Happened:

The Trojans jumped on the Seton Hall pitching early, taking a 4-0 lead into the third until sophomore Brennan O'Neill (Morristown, N.J.) turned in a shutdown inning.

Dana led off the top of the fourth with a solo home run, his second of the season, that cut the Pirates deficit to three runs, 4-1. Hood followed up Dana's solo blast with a double but he was left stranded at second base. USC responded by capitalizing on a Seton Hall error with two outs that pushed its lead back to four, 5-1.

USC put the game out of reach by plating three runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh.

News & Notes:

Dana went 6-for-13 with two home runs and three RBI in the three-game series.
Dana has five multi-hit games this season and 24 in his career.
Freshman Jace Baqui (Wailuku, Hawai'i) made his first career start and recorded his first collegiate hit on Sunday.
Sophomore Blaise Panzini (Spring Lake, N.J.) and junior Hunter Waldis (Far Hills, N.J.) both made their first appearances in relief this season.

The Pirates will next travel to Fresno State for a 4 p.m. game on Tuesday, March 3. The Bulldogs, who finished 34th in the final RPI rankings of the 2019 season, were picked to finish second in the Mountain West Preseason poll.
