McLinskey, Shine combine for the shutout on Saturday

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Seton Hall baseball team rode stellar pitching performances from senior Ryan McLinskey (Pearl River, N.Y.) and sophomore Chris Shine (South Plainfield, N.J.) to an 8-0 shutout victory Saturday afternoon.

McLinskey worked four innings of scoreless baseball with five strikeouts and just three Colonial hits and Shine piggybacked those efforts with five shutout innings of his own, tossing another five strikeouts and yielding just one hit through 17 batters faced.

A strong offensive showing complemented Pirate pitching as senior Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Allendale, N.J.) registered his second consecutive four-RBI game by virtue of an eighth-inning grand slam to deep center field. Sophomore Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.) was a force again versus George Washington, going 2-for-4 with a walk, RBI, and a run scored, providing Seton Hall with a small-ball spark, as both hits were off of infield bunts.

Here's What Happened:

The contest was a scoreless affair up until the third inning, when graduate student Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice that plated sophomore speedster Will Gale (Scotch Plains, N.J.). Senior Casey Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.) would follow up Toke's ground ball with a sacrifice fly off the cap of his bat, cashing in senior Jerry Huntzinger (Staten island, N.Y.) from third base.

In the ensuing eighth inning, Gale and Huntzinger would again score, Gale courtesy of Hack's chopping bunt, and Huntzinger thanks to Shedler-McAvoy's longball that also scored Dana, Hack. Huntzinger topped Seton Hall's high-powered offensive day off with an RBI grounder scratching sophomore infielder Jonathan Luders (Lynnfield, Mass.) across home plate. This was the utility options' sixth RBI of the young 2021 season.

Shine was attributed with the win in game two of the three-game series between the Pirates and Colonials, his first victory of his Seton Hall career.
