
Pirates Return to Action Against Hofstra

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Having not played since April 14, the Seton Hall softball team will travel to Hempstead, N.Y. for its first game action in two weeks. The Pirates will face off against the Hoftsra Pride with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. This will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams with the Pirates taking the first matchup 6-2 on March 31 in South Orange.
LAST TIME OUT
The Pirates dropped their last midweek matchup 2-0 against Stony Brook on April 14. Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) got the start in the circle for the Pirates going four innings without surrendering an earned run. At the plate, Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) picked up her sixth double of the season. The two-bagger is the 47th in her career, one shy of tying Katie Pierce's all-time program record.

WHAT'S AHEAD
The Pirates will return home for their final home series of the season as they take on Villanova. The teams will play two games on Saturday before wrapping up with a single game on Sunday. Both days are set to begin with a noon first pitch. The Pirates will honor their seniors before the game on Sunday.

SCOUTING
Hofstra (12-12)
- The Pride dropped two-of-three against Delaware over the weekend of April 17 & 18.
- Offensively, Hofstra is led by Kristin Hallam who is currently hitting at a .427 clips and Jaycee Ruberti who has knocked in 30 runs for the Pride.
- In the circle, Madison Burns has tossed a team-leading 79 innings this season to the tune of a 3.63 ERA. Burns started the first matchup between these two teams giving up five runs through three innings.
- The Pride lead the all-time series, 16-14 with the Pirates winning each of the last two meetings.
- Shelby Smith went the distance last time out against Hofstra, surrendering a single earned run with six punch outs over seven innings. Smith also picked up two doubles and an RBI at the plate.
- Barracato had a two-run home run, her lone long ball of the season, in the previous matchup with the Pride. Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) also provided a two-run double to seal the deal in the Pirate victory.
- Seton Hall is currently second in the BIG EAST Conference in doubles with 41 two-baggers on the season.
