
Smith Tosses Complete Game Shutout, Pirates Split with Providence

How it Happened
- The Pirates got on the board first with a Pandolfo two-run home run in the first inning, her team-leading sixth of the season.
- Providence would cut the Pirate lead in half, with a leadoff solo home run by Jacque Harrington in the bottom half of the inning.
- The Friars would go on to score six in the third and four in the fourth to take game one, 11-2 in five innings.

How it Happened
- After five scoreless innings, the Pirates finally broke through in the top of the sixth. First, Arteaga picked up her first long ball of the year, a two-run shot to left field to get the Pirates on the board. The next batter, Pandolfo also homered to left, a solo shot to make the score 3-0.
- In the seventh, Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.) tripled home a run to give the Pirates an extra insurance run.
- In the circle, Smith kept the Providence offense at bay, not allowing a run in a complete game shutout.
- Smith picked up five strikeouts enroute to her third win and fourth complete game on the season. It was also Smith's first career shutout.
- The homerun for Pandolfo was her second off the day after she had one in game one. It was also her seventh of the season which ties her career-high for most homers in a season when she also hit seven in 2019. Pandolfo now leads the team with 20 RBIs on the season and has 89 for her career. Her 24 homeruns is good enough for fifth place on the all-time program leaderboard.
- Arteaga's two-run homerun was her first of the season and 20th in her career. With two runs driven in, Arteaga now has knocked in 123 runs in her career which puts her alone in fourth place all-time in school history.
- Wingo's triple was her first this season and second of her career. She has also set a new personal-best for runs driven in with 11 on the year. (previous high was 10).
- Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) and Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.) also picked up hits with Carr coming up with her sixth double on the year.
The Pirates will round out the regular season with the rubber match between these two teams taking pace tomorrow at noon.
