
Acevedo, Tait Power Pirates Up Leaderboard in Arizona

Seton Hall moves up to third at 10-under-par through two rounds at the Loyola Intercollegiate.
GOODYEAR, ARIZ. – Graduate student Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) shot a 3-under-par, 69, to fuel the Seton Hall men's golf team's rise to third place after two rounds of the Loyola Intercollegiate on Monday.

Acevedo birdied five of his first 10 holes and completed his round with seven straight pars. Through two rounds, he is tied for 11th place with a 3-under-par, 72-69-141. His sub-par round is the 17th of this career.

Collectively, the Pirates shot the second-best round of the field on Monday, a second-straight 5-under-par, 283. The Hall jumped up two spots in the standings to third place with 18 holes left to play. Currently, they're 10-under-par with a 283-283-566. Middle Tennessee State remains the team leader at 18-under-par, while Utah Valley is second at 14-under-par. BIG EAST competitors Creighton and DePaul are 9-over-par and 15-over-par respectively.

The top Pirate after two rounds is graduate student Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England). He used four birdies and 14 pars to fuel a 2-under-par, 70, in the second round. Tait is currently tied for fifth among 110 individual golfers with a 5-under-par, 69-70-139. He trails the individual leader, Middle Tennessee State's Kevin Jegers by four strokes entering Tuesday's final round.

Both Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) and Deven Ramanchandran (San Rafael, Calif.) shot an even-par, 72, on Monday. Xie is currently tied for 15th place overall with a 2-under-par, 70-72-142, while Ramachandran is tied for 27th with an even-par, 72-72-144.

Sophomore Wanxi Sun (Danville, Calif.) had a major bounce back on Monday, shaving nine strokes off his first-round score to finish with a 1-over-par, 73. Through two rounds, he's 11-over-par with an 82-73-155.

Seton Hall sent two additional Pirates who are competing as individuals this week. Angus O'Brien (Barwon Heads, Australia) followed up his sparkling 6-under-par, 66, yesterday with a 2-over-par, 74, in round two. The freshman had 15 pars on Monday and is now tied for seventh place overall with a 4-under-par, 66-74-140.

Sophomore Brody Hanley (Lantana, Texas) shot a 5-over-par, 77, in round two. After 36 holes, he's tied for 68th with a 6-over-par, 73-77-150.

Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

The field will play three rounds over three days with tee times beginning each day at 7:45 a.m. PT. The Hall will be paired with golfers from Loyola, Middle Tennessee and Delaware in round one.
