South Orange, N.J. - Junior Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and a terrific diving catch in the outfield but it wasn't enough as the Seton Hall baseball team fell to NJIT, 8-3, on Tuesday afternoon in its home opener at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field.

It was the second three-hit game of the season for Hack, who is now hitting .303 on the young season. Junior Staus Pokrovsky (Pittsgrove, N.J.) and senior David Haberman (Morristown, N.J.) both tallied RBI doubles.

How It Happened

The Highlanders struck first in the top of the first inning and added another run in the top of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.

The Pirates started off the bottom of the fourth with a lead-off double for freshman Pat D'Amico (Lynnfield, Mass.). D'Amico tagged and moved to third on a fly ball to left and later scored on a double to center field by Pokrovsky. Another double, third time off the bat of Haberman, plated Pokrovsky and tied the game up at 2-2. Junior Oscar Murray (Brentwood, Calif.) drove home the go-ahead run ona single to right, giving Seton Hall a 3-2 lead.

The lead wouldn't last for long though as NJIT pushed across three runs in the fifth and three runs in the seventh to take a commanding 8-3 lead. Despite a solid relief outing by senior Alex Nicolosi (Stony Point, N.Y.), striking out two and allowing one hit in two innings of work, the Pirate offense couldn't capitalize.
