Seton Hall Tops Saint Joseph's In Second Game of Doubleheader

Sylvester goes 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the win
South Orange, N.J. - Redshirt junior Joe Cinnella (Mahwah, N.J.) went seven innings, struck out four and allowed only one earned run and sophomore Zack Sylvester (Montville, N.J.) went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run as the Seton Hall baseball team took the second game of a doubleheader, 5-3, against Saint Joseph's on Saturday at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field.
Game one of the twin bill saw an 11-inning pitcher's duel that the Hawks claimed, 3-2. Freshman Pat D'Amico (Lynnfield, Mass.) went 3-for-4 in game one with an RBI and starter Hunter Waldis (Naples. Fla.) fanned five in 6.1 innings of work.
How It Happened
In game two, the Pirates got on the scoreboard first. Senior Steve Grober (Hillsborough, N.J.) led off the bottom of the third with a double and he later scored on a wild pitch after moving to third on a bunt single by junior Oscar Murray (Brentwood, Calif.). The Hawks responded in the top of the fourth that tied the game up at 1-1. After the the fourth, retired the next nine batters he faced in order, allowing the Seton Hall offense to go to work.
Like in the bottom of the fifth, when the Pirates took the lead on an RBI groundout by Murray that plated graduate student Collin Sheehan (Doylestown, Pa.). Later in the frame with two runners on, Sylvester turned on the first pitch he saw and sent it over the left field wall, giving Seton Hall a 4-1 advantage.
In the bottom of the seventh, Sheehan led off an inning with a triple for the second time in the time. He would go on to score on a wild pitch that tacked on a key insurance run, making the score 5-1. Despite St. Joe's plating runs in the eighth and ninth innings, The Hall held on to win its first home game of the season.
In game one, the Pirates trailed 2-0 early but got a run back on an RBI single to center field by D'Amico. Waldis did his part by retiring 12 of the next 14 batters he faced before being lifted with one out in the top of the seventh with St. Joe's leading 2-1. Reliever Zane Probst (Mill Hall, Pa.) started a 1-6-3 double play that ended the top half of the seventh and he helped pick off a runner at first that ended the eighth.
In the bottom of the ninth, with runners on first and second, Sylvester hit a sharp grounder to the shortstop whose throw to second base went wide, allowing pinch runner Mark McNelly (Limerick, Pa.) to score all the way from second, tying the score at 2-2. Despite two strikeouts to start the top of the 11th, a solo home run gave the Hawks the lead and proved to be the difference in their 3-2 victory.

Seton Hall will next travel down to Philadelphia tomorrow to take on St. Joe's at 1 p.m. to conclude the weekend series.
