3/5/2022 1:16:00 AM | Softball
Seton Hall 12 – Nevada 7
How it Happened
- After Nevada got on the board with a solo home run in the first, the Pirates got the offense moving following a Caye double in the second. Fellow freshman, Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) singled Caye home before Hill was singled home later in the inning on an Ashly Colonnetta (Cypress, Texas) single to take a 2-1 lead. The Pirates would add another run on a Pack miscue to take a 3-1 lead.
- Nevada would retake the lead with three runs in its half of the second on a pair of run-scoring doubles to make it a 4-3 game.
- In the third, Hill would pick up her second RBI in as many at-bats with another single to know things at four.
- Tied at four in the fourth and following an Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.) double, the Pirates would again capitalize on a Nevada error to take the lead, 5-4.
- With two runners on in the fifth, Alexander broke the game open with a three-run home run, the first of her collegiate career. The next batter, Colonnetta, tripled and was brought home on a Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) sacrifice fly before an Allender two-run home run capped off the six-run inning for the Pirates leaving them with an 11-4 lead.
- The Pack would grab a run in the fifth, but the Pirates would take that run right back in the sixth on a Caye solo home run for her fourth consecutive game with a long ball.
- Nevada would score twice in the seventh but that would be all as the Pirates came away with the 12-7 victory.
- The home run for Caye is her team-leading fifth of the season and fifth in four games.
- Allender's long ball was the 23rd of her career, moving her into a tie for sixth on the Pirates' all-time list with Sara Haefeli.
- Colonnetta led the Pirates with three hits in the ball game while, Allender, Caye, Hill and Alexander all picked up multiple knocks in the victory.
- Alexander is the ninth different Pirate with a home run this season.
- Babik moved to 4-1 in the circle this season, picking up the win with four strikeouts over 6.1 innings.
- The Pirates have now scored 10-plus runs in five games this season.
- The Pirates outhit the Pack 13-7.
