South Orange, N.J. — Junior Jonathan Luders (Lynnfield, Mass.) tallied a career-high four hits, freshman Pat D'Amico (Lynnfield, Mass.) drove in two runs and redshirt junior Joe Cinnella (Mahwah, N.J.) struck out four batters and didn't allow a run in a four-inning start to lead the Seton Hall baseball team to a 6-2 win over Rider on Tuesday evening at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field.
Freshman Michael Callan Moss (Brooklyn, N.Y.) registered a career-best three hits and an RBI and senior Blaise Panzini (Spring Lake, N.J.) earned his first career save and had two strikeouts.
How It Happened
The Pirates sprayed single runs from the second through fifth innings. After Cinnella retired the side in order in the top of the second inning, junior Mark McNelly (Limerick, Pa.) roped a two-out double to center field and freshman Jack Wentworth (Wakefield, R.I.) drove him in on a base hit to left field that put the Pirates up 1-0. RBI doubles by D'Amico in the third and McNelly in the fourth extended Seton Hall's lead to 3-0. A shutdown inning by freshman Jake Potts (Glen Mills, Pa.) out of the bullpen preceded the bottom of the fifth where another RBI single by D'Amico made it 4-0 Pirates.
The Broncs inched closer with a run in the top of the sixth that made it 4-1 but two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, including an RBI single to center field by Moss, gave Seton Hall some breathing room heading into the ninth.
Despite a run scored on a sacrifice fly that made it 6-2, Panzini was able to close the door, striking out the final batter swinging with the bases loaded.
