INDIANAPOLIS - The Seton Hall baseball team started out hot but couldn't sustain momentum as Butler defeated the Pirates fell to the Bulldogs, 6-4, on Saturday afternoon.

Redshirt sophomore Will Gale (Scotch Plains, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and senior Justin Scotto (Tinton Falls, N.J.) went 2-for-4 with a run driven in for the Pirates.

How It Happened

The game started with back-to-back singles by Gale and junior Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.). Junior Jonathan Luders (Lynnfield, Mass.) then put a bunt down that was fielded by the pitcher and thrown away that allowed Gale to score from third base and gave Seton Hal a 1-0 lead. A sacrifice fly off the bat of senior Steve Grober (Hillsbourough, N.J.) and an RBI single by senior Justin Scotto (Tinton Falls, N.J.) extended the Seton Hall advantage to 3-0.

However, Butler would come back with a two-run home run in the first and two more runs in the second inning to take a 4-3 lead. Starter Joe Cinnella (Mahwah, N.J.) would settle in and blank the Bulldogs in the third and fourth innings before freshman Daniel Frontera (Red Bank, N.J.) did the same in the next frames out of the bullpen that ke[t it a one-run game.

In the top of the seventh, graduate student Collin Sheehan (Doylestown, Pa.) led off the inning with a single and moved to second base following a sacrifice bunt by senior Bobby Sheppard (Basking Ridge, N.J.). Gale was able to execute and delivered with a single to left field that allowed Sheehan to come all the way around from second to score and tie the game up at 4-4. Butler however would go on to hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to take a 6-4 lead and it would prove to be the game-winning hit.
