Frontera's Start Lifts Seton Hall To 7-4 Win Over Houston Christian

Sugar Land, Texas - Sophomore Daniel Frontera (Red Bank, N.J.) set the tone on the mound as he went 6.2 innings with four strikeouts and sophomore Jedier Hernandez (Trenton, N.J.) reached base in all four plate appearances while driving in a pair of runs as the Seton Hall baseball team got back on track and defeated Houston Christian, 7-4, on Saturday evening at Constellation Field.
Graduate student Joe Cinnella (Mahwah, N.J.) closed out the victory for the Pirates (2-3) by striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth. Junior Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.) went 2-for-5 with an RBI double and redshirt junior Jonathan Luders (Lynnfield, Mass.) crossed the plate three times.
How It Happened
The Pirates got on the board in the top of the first inning. Luders was hit by a pitch to lead off the game and moved from first to third on a base hit by Hack. Heads up base running by Luders gave The Hall a 1-0 lead as he dashed home on a wild pitch. After Frontera worked a flawless second inning, Luders was again hit by a pitch to begin an inning and the Pirates made HCU pay as Hack drove home Luders on a double to right field. An RBI double by junior Zack Sylvester (Montville, N.J.), a passed by that allowed redshirt junior Staus Pokrovsky (Pittsgrove, N.J.) to score and a sacrifice fly by Hernandez that sent home Slyvester extended the Seton Hall lead to 5-0 in the top of the third.
The lead helped out Frontera as he settled in and retired 12 straight batters from the bottom of the third through the bottom of the sixth. Sophomore Pat D'Amico (Lynnfield, Mass.) added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as his RBI double made it a 6-0 ballgame. Houston Christian would creep closer thanks to a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh and an RBI single in the eighth that made it 6-4 but an RBI base knock in the top of the ninth by Hernandez gave the Pirates a three run advantage, 7-4, and Cinnella some breathing room to close it out in the home half.
