South Orange, N.J. - Seton Hall freshman Ryan Reich (Sellinsgrove, Pa.) has been named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after recording two saves last weekend at Villanova. Redshirt junior Staus Pokrovsky (Pittsgrove, N.J.) was tabbed to the Weekly Honor Roll after a standout week at the plate.
Reich earned two saves in back-to-back appearances on Friday and Saturday and collected five strikeouts. He didn't allow a base runner in 2.1 innings pitched, facing the minimum number of batters. Reich worked a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts that ended the series clincher on Friday and he entered Saturday's game in the bottom of the eighth with the go-ahead run at the plate in a 6-5 game and got a flyout to end the inning. He then went on to strike out the side in the bottom of the ninth that clinched the series sweep and his second save of the weekend.
Pokrovsky went 4-for-11 with a double, two home runs, five RBI and a team-best five runs scored. His three-run home run in the top of the first inning on Saturday set the tone for a sweep-clinching victory over Villanova. He crossed the plate three times, a career high, and went 3-for-4 in the series finale. Pokrovsky hit a solo home run in the series opener and registered an RBI on a sacrifice fly in game two.
