Before the game, eight Pirate seniors were honored on Senior Day. Smith and Wingo were recognized along with Miranda Arruda, Ashly Colonnetta, Grace Dawson, Taylor Soanes, Ally Taylor and Jordan Tressler.
How it Happened
After a quick first inning defensively, the Pirates broke the game open early with five runs in the first inning. Three straight singles brought home the first run, as Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) laced a single up the middle to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. Next, Wingo stepped in and launched the first pitch she saw over the wall in centerfield for a grand slam to make it a 5-0 Pirates lead.

Butler attempted to work its way back, putting multiple runners on base in both the second and third innings. After not scoring in the second, a bases loaded walk in the third brought home the first Bulldogs run to make it 5-1. The visitors seemed to be threatening for more with runners on each base and one out, but a line drive to Andrea Perez (Corona, Calif.) at shortstop turned into an inning ending double play.

In the fourth, the Pirates used some two out production to manufacture an insurance run. After the first two batters were set down, three straight singles from Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.), Colonnetta and Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) brought home the sixth Pirate run of the day.
Smith cruised through the rest of her outing with little stress. The Bulldogs would add another run in the seventh on a leadoff home run by Ellie Boyer, but the senior was able to record the final three outs to seal the victory.
