Atlanta, Ga. -- Zack Sylvester (Montville, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Seton Hall had the game-tying run at third in the top of the ninth inning but the Pirates weren't able to complete a sweep of Georgia State on Sunday as the Panthers topped The Hall, 3-2, to take the series finale.

Cole Hansen (Skillman, N.J.) and Anthony Ehly (Glenside, Pa.) both threw four innings and combined to scatter just five hits on the mound for the Pirates (4-2). Danny Melnick (Hamilton, N.J.) posted his fourth multi-hit game of the season after going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

How It Happened

Jonathan Luders (Lynnfield, Mass.) led off the game with a base hit but was erased on a double play. Hansen fanned the first batter he faced before allowing back-to-back home runs that gave Georgia State an early 2-0 lead. Hansen settled in after the first and retired the next six Panthers that he faced.

Still trailing 2-0 entering the top of the fourth, Melnick roped a two-out double down the left field line and Sylvester sent him home on a base hit to left that trimmed the Pirates' deficit to one, 2-1. Georgia State answered with a two-out RBI of their own in the home half of the fourth that pushed its lead back to one, 3-1. Ehly came out of the bullpen in the fifth inning and sat down the Panthers in order. After allowing a lead-off hit in the sixth, Ehly picked off the runner for the first out and retired the next two batters for another scoreless frame.

Ehly continued to deal by retiring six of the next seven Georgia State batters, keeping it a two-run ballgame entering the top of the ninth. Melnick reached on a one-out base hit and it set the stage for Sylvester, who ripped a 1-0 pitch down the left field line that plated Melnick all the way from first. With Sylvester on second after his RBI double, he used heads up base-running to advance to third on a wild pitch. Despite having the tying-run 90 feet away
