Indianapolis, Ind. – The Seton Hall softball team dropped its series finale at Butler on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 5-2. Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.) drove in the Pirate runs on the afternoon.
How it Happened
Butler's offense came out of the gates strong, scoring in each of the first four innings. The Bulldogs took the early lead after a bases loaded walk in the first, followed by an RBI groundout and RBI single in the second.
The Pirates began to chip away at the deficit in the third. After Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) walked and Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) singled, Gilbert doubled into right center to score Hill with the first Seton Hall tally. Allen would single up the middle later in the inning to score Carr, however Gilbert would be thrown out at the plate to keep the lead with Butler.
Only holding a one-run advantage, the Bulldogs used run-scoring hits in the third and fourth innings to increase their lead back to three at 5-2. Butler's pitching would keep Seton Hall's offense at bay over the final four innings to salvage the final game of the series.
News & Notes
The Pirates will travel to West Point for a midweek doubleheader at Army on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
