Jacksonville, Fla. -- Graduate student Kyle Lyons (West Chester, Pa.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Graduate student Danny Melnick (Hamilton, N.J.) went 2-for-4 as the Pirates dropped the series opener to North Florida, 6-4.

Graduate student Jackson Balzan (Medford, N.J.) and senior Jay Allmer (Cary, N.C.) combined for one unearned run allowed in relief. Balzan pitched a scoreless 2.2 innings while striking out three while Allmer went two innings with two strikeouts.

How It Happened

North Florida jumped on the board early in the second inning scoring five runs on five hits. The Pirates picked up their first hit of the afternoon in the fourth inning with a single from Melnick.

The Pirates were able to scrape some runs across in the top of the fifth inning where they scored three runs on three hits and two errors. Freshman Joey Calabretti (Perkasie, Pa.) and sophomore Nick Ferri (Flemington, N.J.) both scored on a throwing error by the pitcher to score the first runs for the Pirates. Next at bat was followed up by an RBI single from Lyons to get the deficit to two.

The Pirates were able to get the game within one in the top of the seventh on an error by the shortstop which Redshirt senior Staus Pokrovsky (Pittsgrove, N.J.) reached safely and picked up an RBI with Lyons coming home to score.

North Florida secured the win on an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to make it a two run game and the Pirates bats were unable to come back leaving six runners total on base.
