Game 1: DePaul 6, Seton Hall 2
How it Happened
- The Blue Demons came out of the gates strong, scoring five runs in the first inning to take an early lead.
- The Hall threatened on numerous occasions, but finally broke through in the fourth on a two-run single from Erin Howard (Skillman, N.J.).
- Babik settled in after the first inning, setting down the side in order in the second and third and stranding a pair of runners on base in the fifth.
- DePaul would tack on an insurance tally in the seventh after a double steal allowed a run to score from third.
- Both seniors in the batting order, Allen and Carr, recorded base hits.
- Howard registered her fourth multi-RBI game of the season.
- With the defeat, the Pirates solidified themselves as the No. 4 seed in next week's BIG EAST Tournament.
How it Happened
- Carr helped the Pirates jump on the scoreboard early, launching a three-run home run in the bottom of the first.
- DePaul would tack on a pair in the third to pull within one, but a sacrifice fly from Allen and an RBI double from Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) pushed the Pirate advantage back to three.
- The Blue Demons chipped away once again, scoring in the fifth on a solo home run and in the sixth on an RBI double to trail by one, 5-4, entering the bottom of the sixth.
- After a 15-pitch battle with the bases loaded, Katey Brennan (Yardley, Pa.) laced a ball down the right field line for a three-run triple to make it an 8-4 Seton Hall lead.
- Next, Howard would crush a two-run home run over the wall in left to break the game open.
- The sixth inning rally proved to be important for Seton Hall, as DePaul scored twice in the top of the seventh on a two-run single. Carr would be able to avoid any further damage, inducing a flyout to left field to end the game.
- This was the sixth multi-RBI game and third three-RBI game for Brennan this season, pushing her season total up to 32.
- Brennan's 21 RBI's in BIG EAST play are the most on the team, and her 15 multi-hit games on the season overall are also tops on the club.
- Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.) collected a pair of hits and finishes BIG EAST play batting a team-best .370.
- Carr's home run was her ninth of the year, tying her with Hill for the team lead.
- Howard's home run was her third of the season, and she concludes conference play batting .342.
The Pirates head to Providence to try and defend their BIG EAST title as they will square off with St. John's on Wednesday at 12 p.m.
