Pirates Set to Open Season at Frank Griffin Classic

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – In a season-opening road trip, the Seton Hall softball team will travel to DeLand, Florida, on February 6 and 7, to play a quartet of games at the Frank Griffin Classic, hosted by Stetson University. The Pirates will play against Indiana State and Stetson, the tournament hosts, on Friday. The Pirates will wrap up their weekend on Saturday with a pair of games against Indiana State and UT Martin.

PREVIEWING INDIANA STATE

This is the first matchup ever between Seton Hall and Indiana State.
Despite a 19-33 campaign last season, the Sycamores return almost all of their offensive core this season, including All-MVC Second Team outfielder Morgan Goodrich, All-MVC Defensive Team selection Lauren Marsicek and team batting average leader Kenzie Cornwell.
In the circle, despite top pitcher Hailey Griffin graduating, Lauren Sackett will continue to build upon her breakout campaign and Megan Asher will be called upon for a bigger role.

PREVIEWING STETSON

Seton Hall is 1-1 all-time against Stetson.
- Both games were part of a doubleheader on March 2, 2016.
The Hatters were picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic Sun Conference this season.
Despite losing star sophomore Addison Foster in the transfer portal, Stetson maintains a strong offensive core headlined by Preseason All-ASUN Utility/DP selection Amber Chumley. Chumley, a 2025 ASUN All-Freshman Team selection, finished last season hitting .301/.354/.497 with a team-leading mark of nine home runs.
Entering the season, the pair of Ava Braswell and Caitlyn Kulcyzski remain atop the Hatters rotation after finishing 2025 with 3.30 and 3.73 ERAs, respectively.

PREVIEWING UT MARTIN

This is the first matchup ever between Seton Hall and UT Martin.
UT Martin was picked to finish eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference.
At the plate, the Skyhawks return the dynamic pair of Kyla Harley and Avary Makarewicz. Last season, Harley finished tied for the team lead in hits (41), while Makarewicz led in home runs (8).
After ending last season with a 2.89 ERA in 109 innings pitched, Ashtyn Green returns atop the rotation for UT Martin this season.

NEWS & NOTES

The Pirates enter the weekend with 983 wins, leaving them 17 wins off reaching 1000 wins in program history.
The Pirates will look for freshman and sophomores to fill the offensive void left by the departed seniors. Last year's senior class accounted for 52% of The Hall's hits, 67% of their home runs and 60% of RBI, including the top four in RBI from last season
Among position players, the Pirates are projected to return four starters from last year, three of which are in the infield.
After setting the single-season record for runs scored and setting a new career high in home runs, Katey Brennan returns to left field for the Pirates.
