PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA. – Senior Jon Prosinski (Skillman, N.J.) threw a complete-game shutout as the Seton Hall baseball team defeated Villanova, 7-0, in the opening game of a three-game series on Friday. Prosinski was simply masterful throwing his third complete game in his last four starts. He now has four complete games this season. In addition, the Pirates’ ace struck out a career-high 13 batters, while walking just one. Offensively, Seton hall banged out 15 hits. Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Despite Seton Hall’s gaudy offensive numbers this season, it was the Pirates’ traditional “small ball” that plated their first run. Three bunt singles and a sacrifice got Seton Hall on the board in the top of the second inning. The third bunt single, by Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.), drove in Selden. In the fourth inning, Seton Hall rallied for a run with two outs. Ryan Sullivan (Stony Point, N.Y.) singled on a hard hit ball off the second baseman’s glove and stole second. Granite followed with a liner off the shortstop’s glove to drive in Sullivan with the Pirates’ second run. Seton Hall (24-16, 8-5) tacked on two more in the top of the fifth inning. Scott Kalamar (Bethlehem, Pa.) led off with a hard single to right centerfield and stole second. With one out, Genovese lined a single into left centerfield to score Kalamar with the Pirates’ third run. With two outs, Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.) hit a perfectly placed pop to right field, and the defender missed on a diving attempt to make the catch, which allowed Genovese to score from first to give Seton Hall a 4-0 lead. In the top of the eighth, Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) singled with one out and stole second base. With two outs, Dillon Hamlin (Colts Neck, N.J.) delivered an RBI single up the middle to extend Seton Hall’s lead to 5-0. The Pirates extended their lead to 7-0 in the top of the ninth on an RBI sacrifice fly by Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) and RBI single by Genovese. With the victory, Seton Hall improves to a perfect 5-0 in the first game of a BIG EAST three-game series, all Prosinski starts. Prosinski improves to 7-2 on the season and lowers his team-leading ERA to 2.23. Seton Hall will resume its three-game series at Villanova tomorrow (Saturday). First pitch is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. ET.
