FORT MYERS, FLA. - Junior Zach Prendergast (Horsham, Pa.) tossed seven innings of one-run baseball and sophomore Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J.) drove in four runs as Seton Hall routed No. 15 Missouri, 9-1, on Sunday to earn a series split.
Seton Hall (2-2) jumped on Missouri starter Ryan Lee from the start, scoring single runs in the first, second, third and fifth innings, and never looked back. Meanwhile, Prendergast was masterful. The Pirate right-handed starter struck out eight batters and walked only one over seven innings to earn the victory.
Turning Point:
Although Seton Hall was seeming in control from the start, and held a 4-0 advantage, the game wasn't broken open until the seventh inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.J.) drew a walk to force in the Pirates' fifth run. Alescio followed with a bases-clearing, three-RBI double to give The Hall a commanding 8-0 lead.
