MIAMI, FLA. -- Sophomore Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) went 3-for-4, but the Seton Hall baseball team fell at Florida International, 8-3, on Friday.
FIU starter Andres Nunez allowed just two earned runs over eight innings to earn the victory. The right-hander allowed just four baserunners over the first six innings.
One significant highlight for the Pirates was the collegiate debut of sophomore Tim Edwards (Hershey, Pa.). The 6-foot-5 right-hander tossed 2.1 innings of hitless baseball and struck out a batter.
Turning Point:
Leading 2-0, FIU broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Panthers sent 11 men to the plate and scored six runs to take a commanding 8-0 lead.
Inside the Numbers:
- Sophomore Shane McCarthy (Fair Haven, N.J.) took the loss. He tossed 4.0 innings and gave up five earned runs with five strikeouts and one walk.
- Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) went 2-for-4 and joins Ramiz as the only Pirates with multiple hits.
- Junior Ryan Testani (Shelton, Conn.) pitched a perfect eighth inning with a strikeout.
- Seton Hall left seven men on base, while FIU left nine on base.
- Senior Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) saved potentially three runs with a diving catch with the bases loaded to end the third inning.
