SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Senior Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBIs as the Seton Hall baseball team downed Saint Peter's, 8-1, on Wednesday for their fifth straight win.
The victory improves Seton Hall to 30-12 overall. It's the fifth time in the last six seasons that the Pirates have reached the 30-win plateau. The Hall still has 14 regular season games still to play.
Turning Point:
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, the Pirates offense got started with two outs and the bases empty. Senior Chris Chiaradio (Teaneck, N.J.) walked and stole second base. After Derek Jenkins (Annandale, N.J.) was hit by a pitch, Weigel tripled to right field, driving in both runners, to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead.
Inside the Numbers:
- Chiaradio walked twice, scored two runs and stole a career-high four bases.
- Seton Hall used eight pitchers.
- Freshman Dylan Verdonk (Losser, Netherlands) got the win with two perfect innings of relief.
- Sophomore Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.
- Sophomore Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J.) drove in two runs.
