NEWARK, N.J. - The Seton Hall baseball team clubbed a season-high 21 hits and their bullpen limited NJIT to just three hits after the second inning in a 9-3 victory at NJIT on Tuesday.
Seton Hall got the offense started in the top of the second inning. With one out, the next four Pirates reached base. A single to left field by Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.J.) with the bases loaded drove in Mikael-Ali Mogues (New York, N.Y.) with the game's first run.
Turning Point:
With the game tied at one, the Pirates jumped ahead again in the top of the third inning. With one out, Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) singled past a diving shortstop. Fortin followed with a double down the right field line to score Weigel from first and give The Hall a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, Seton Hall worked a little two-out magic. With two down, Alescio singled home Fortin. After Alescio stole second, Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) followed with an RBI single to right field to bring him in with the Pirates' fourth run. The Highlanders never got closer than three runs the rest of the game.
