Pirates Drop Double-Header to Xavier, 10-6

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall baseball team lost its second consecutive game by the score of 10-6 to Xavier in game two of Saturday's double-header. The Musketeers completed the three-game sweep of the Pirates.
Xavier jumped on Seton Hall starter Matt Leon (Bethlehem, Pa.) from the start of the game. The Musketeers scored in each of the first three innings and led 9-0 before the Pirates came to bat in the bottom of the third.
Seton Hall (31-17, 5-7) made it a game late, scoring six times in the final three innings, but wasn't able to draw even. Brett Fontenelli (Toms River, N.J.) doubled in a run, and Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.J.) singled home a run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Musketeer lead to 9-2. Down 10-5 in the ninth, Zach Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) singled in a run to cut the lead to 10-6.
Inside the Numbers:
- Sophomore Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) was the lone Pirate with two hits.
- Leon took the loss giving up seven runs over 1.2 innings.
- Freshman Matt Ardente (Galloway, N.J.) tossed 3.2 innings and allowed only two hits.
- Freshman Dylan Verdonk (Losser, Netherlands) pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball.
- Seton Hall left seven men on base, while Xavier left 10.
News & Notes:
- It's only the third time this season that Seton Hall has allowed double-digit runs, but the second time on Saturday.
- The Pirates have lost five straight for the first time this season.
- This is the first home three-game series Seton Hall has lost all season.
- Seton Hall falls to 6-4 all-time against the Musketeers.
- The Pirates fall to 20-5 at Owen T. Carroll Field this season.
