SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Zach Prendergast (Horsham, Pa.) pitched six strong innings and junior Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) had three hits as the Seton Hall baseball team defeated Manhattan, 7-2, in the first game of the Strikeout Cancer Classic on Friday.

Manhattan was aided by a pair of early Seton Hall errors to score unearned runs in both the top of the first and second to take a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, the Pirates cut the Jaspers' lead in half on an RBI groundout by Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.J.).

Turning Point:
Trailing 2-1, Seton Hall took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) doubled to left-center field to lead off, and Ramiz followed with a single up the middle to drive in Poduslenko with the tying run. After Matt Fortin (Nashua, N.H.) walked, Caputo singled through the left side to score the go-ahead run. With one out, Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.) drove in the third Pirate run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to give The Hall a 4-2 advantage.

Inside the Numbers:

Prendergast allowed only two unearned runs over six innings. He gave up just four hits and struck out four batters without issuing a walk.
Ramiz went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and three runs scored.
Poduslenko reached base three times, going 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored and two walks.
Caputo went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Toke went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and a career-high three RBIs.
Junior Matt Leon (Bethlehem, Pa.) tossed a scoreless seventh inning with two strikeouts.
Senior Anthony Pacillo (Lyndhurst, N.J.) struck out the side in order on just 11 pitches in the eighth inning.
Senior Ryan Testani (Shelton, Conn.) pitched a perfect ninth inning.
Toke drove in two runs with a double in the sixth inning.
Ramiz scored the Pirates' seventh run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.
Seton Hall left six men on base, while Manhattan left five.

News & Notes:

Ramiz' triple in the seventh inning is the 100^th hit of his career.
Testani has now began the 2017 season with 16 scoreless innings.
The Hall recorded at least 10 hits for the seventh time this season.
The Pirates improve to 5-0 this season when Prendergast starts.
Seton Hall improves to 24-5 all-time against Manhattan.
