UConn's Late Rally Foils Prendergast's Strong Start

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Zach Prendergast (Horsham, Pa.) pitched 7.2 strong innings, but the Seton Hall baseball team fell to Connecticut, 2-1, on Friday.
After four innings of shutout baseball on both sides, the Pirates were the first to break through on the scoreboard. Senior Mikael-Ali Mogues (New York, N.Y.) doubled to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, junior Rob Dadona (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled up the middle to score Mogues and give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
Turning Point:
With two outs and a runner on first base in the top of the eighth inning, the Pirates appeared poised to take a lead into the ninth inning. However, a two-out single by UConn's Willy Yahn, followed by a two-run double to left field, just past a diving Dadona, gave Connecticut a 2-1 lead.
Inside the Numbers:
- Prendergast took his first loss of the season after pitching 7.2 innings and allowing two earned runs. He struck out five batters and didn't issue a walk.
- Dadona, Mogues and Matt Fortin (Nashua, N.H.) were the only Pirates to record hits.
- Junior Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) reached base twice with a pair of walks.
- Senior Ryan Testani (Shelton, Conn.) recorded the final four outs for Seton Hall in order.
- Seton Hall left six men on base, while Connecticut left five.
- Testani has now tossed 20.1 scoreless innings this season.
- Seton Hall drops to 45-36 all-time against Connecticut.
Seton Hall will resume its three-game series with Connecticut tomorrow at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. ET.
