SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Junior Rob Dadona (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a two-out, inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the 12^th inning to win a wild, back-and-forth game for the Seton Hall baseball team, 10-9, over Rutgers on Wednesday.

The Pirates trailed 4-0 early on, but scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, freshman Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Allendale, N.J.) drilled a three-run triple to right-center field. In the sixth inning, the Pirates tied the game on an RBI triple by Jackson Martin (Collegeville, Pa.) and took the lead, 5-4, on a sacrifice fly by Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.).

Rutgers however, struck back with two runs in the top of the seventh and a run in the top of the eighth to take a 7-5 advantage. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Pirates rallied with two outs, and RBI singles by Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.J.) and Poduslenko, tied the game at seven.

Turning Point:
After scoring twice in the top of the ninth, the Scarlet Knights appeared poised to earn a split of the two-game series, but the Pirates rallied yet again. With one out, Dadona walked, Shedler-McAvoy singled and Chris Villa (Staten Island, N.Y.) walked to load the bases. Poduslenko followed with a walk to force in the Pirates' eighth run. Caputo then hit into a fielder's choice, but Shedler-McAvoy was able to score the tying run and force extra innings.

With two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the 12^th inning, Dadona launched a deep shot over the head of the Rutgers' center fielder, just to the right of straight-away center field. Dadona came all the way around to score with the winning run.

Inside the Numbers:

The teams combined to use 38 players in the game.

Sophomore Matt Ponsiglione (Staten Island, N.Y.) picked up the victory with two innings of scoreless relief. The victory is the first of his collegiate career.
Freshman Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.) reached base a team-high four times, going 2-for-5 with two walks.
Seton Hall starter Chris Morris (Matawan, N.J.) allowed four runs over five innings with six strikeouts and seven walks in a no decision.
Shedler-McAvoy went 3-for-6 with a triple, a stolen base, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Freshman Corey Sawyer (Kearny, N.J.) pitched a career-high 1.2 innings in relief and retired all four batters, including two strikeouts.
Senior Matt Fortin (Nashua, N.H.) walked three times.
Dadona went 2-for-6 with a home run, a walk, an RBI and three runs scored.
Martin finished 2-for-3 with a triple, a hit-by-pitch, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored.
Junior Al Molina (Freehold, N.J.) went 2-for-6 with a double, a walk and an RBI.

News & Notes:

At five hours and eight minutes, this was the longest game of the season for Seton Hall.
The last time Seton Hall erased a four-run deficit and came back to win was against Rutgers on April 12, 2016. The Hall trailed 6-2, but won, 7-6.
The last time the Pirates won in a walk-off was against Villanova on April 24, 2016.
It's the 15^th time this season the Pirates have recorded at least 10 hits.
The Pirates walked a season-high 13 times.
Seton Hall left a season-high 16 men on base, while Rutgers left 14 on base. The combined 30 left is tied for the most in a game this season,
