PREVIEW:
Seton Hall will return to action this weekend when it hosts Georgetown for a three-game series. The third game of the series will be shown via the BIG EAST Digital Network on the Fox Sports Go app. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Â
Last weekend, the Pirates dropped two of three games at Xavier. The Pirates offense struggled in all three contests as they fell, 2-1, in the opener on Thursday, and 9-0, in the finale on Saturday. In the middle game on Friday, the Pirates had trouble scoring again until a ninth-inning outburst. Trailing 3-1, the Pirates scored five times with two outs in the ninth to come away with a 6-3 victory. Senior Matt Fortin went 4-for-4 in the game and freshman Tyler Shedler-McAvoy hit his first collegiate home run.Â
Â
Earlier this week, the Pirates swept Rutgers in a home-and-home series. The Pirates won 9-6 in Piscataway on Tuesday, and 10-9 at Owen T. Carroll Field on Wednesday.
Â
SERIES INFORMATION:
Seton Hall and Georgetown will resume their very long rivalry this weekend. The Pirates have dominated the all-time series, owning an 80-27 all-time advantage. The Hoyas however, won last year's series with a pair of victories at Shirely Povich Field. The Hall has won the last five series with Georgetown at Owen T. Carroll Field. Last year, Mikael-Ali Mogues led the Pirates, batting .400 against the Hoyas. Neither Shane McCarthy nor Zach Prendergast allowed an earned run in their starts.Â
Â
Georgetown enters this weekend with a record of 21-15 overall and 0-3 in the BIG EAST Conference. They're coming off a mid-week victory over Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday. Last weekend, the Hoyas began BIG EAST play (they had a bye in the first weekend), and was swept by Creighton in Washington, D.C. Georgetown was picked to finish fifth in the seven-team BIG EAST field. Seton Hall and Georgetown have not played any common opponents yet this season.
Â
THINGS TO KNOW:
DADONA WINS IT
Seton Hall completed a two-game sweep of the mini home-and-home series with Rutgers on Wednesday. Rob Dadona hit a walk-off inside-the-park home run with two outs in the bottom of the 12th inning to give The Hall a 10-9 victory. Matt Toke reached base four times. Tyler Shedler-McAvoy went 3-for-6 with a three-run triple.
Â
COMEBACK KIDS
Seton Hall rallied from a deficit three times in Wednesday's game vs. Rutgers. They trailed 4-0, making this the first time since April 12, 2016, also against Rutgers, that the Hall has rallied from a four-run deficit to win. Down 9-7 in the bottom of the ninth, the Pirates scratched across two runs to force extra innings.
Â
LOOOOONG GAME
Seton Hall's game with Rutgers on Wednesday lasted five hours and eight minutes, the longest game of the season thus far.
Â
WALK THIS WAY

Â
STRANDED
In Seton Hall's game vs. Rutgers on Wednesday, the teams combined to strand 30 runners on base, which ties the season high for a Pirate game this season. The Hall stranded 16 runners, while Rutgers stranded 14 runners. The Pirates and Stetson also stranded 30 runners back on March 8.
Â
FREE BASEBALL
With Seton Hall's 12-inning victory over Rutgers on Wednesday, the Pirates improved to 2-1 in extra-inning games this year. The Pirates dropped their first extra-inning game of the year, an 8-7 loss in 10 innings vs. Michigan. The Pirates bounced back with a 13-inning victory at No. 2 Florida, 2-1, on March 11.
Â

A number of firsts were recorded for Seton Hall pitchers vs. Rutgers this week. On Tuesday, Corey Sawyer recorded his first collegiate win. On Wednesday, Matt Ponsiglione recorded his first collegiate win, while Noah Thompson registered his first collegiate save.
Â

Â
AMAZING RALLY
With their offense struggling, the Pirates trailed Xavier, 3-1, entering the ninth inning last Saturday. The Hall however, erupted for five runs to win, 6-3. Matt Fortin had a game-tying two-run double with two outs. A single by Ryan Ramiz gave them a 4-3 lead. Tyler Shedler-McAvoy then provided the insurance with a two-run home run.
Â
APPROACHING 400
Seton Hall enters the weekend series against Georgetown needing just two BIG EAST Conference victories to reach the 400 mark for the program. In 28 years as a member of the conference, the Pirates are 398-328-2.
