4/21/2017 10:17:00 PM | Baseball
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall baseball offense erupted for 11 runs on 14 hits in an 11-2 victory over Georgetown on Friday.
Four Pirates reached base at least three times, with Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) reaching base four times.
Trailing 1-0, the Pirates tied the score in the bottom of the first inning on a one-out RBI single by Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.). Georgetown however, struck for a second, unearned run off starter Shane McCarthy (Fair Haven, N.J.) in the top of the second to retake the lead, 2-1.
Turning Point:
In the bottom of the fourth, the Pirates' offense burst out for three runs on three hits. With one out, Matt Fortin (Nashua, N.H.) tripled to center field, and Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.J.) followed with a walk. Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J.) reached base on a throwing error by Georgetown starter Simon Mathews, which allowed Fortin to score with the tying run. After an infield single by Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Allendale, N.J.) loaded the bases, Poduslenko singled up the middle to plate two more Pirate runs and give The Hall a 4-2 lead.
The Pirates proceeded to score twice more in the fifth, four times in the sixth and once more in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach for Georgetown.
