4/22/2017 6:18:00 PM | Baseball
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall baseball team collected at least 10 hits for a fourth straight game as it held on to defeat Georgetown, 5-4, on Saturday for its season-long fourth straight victory.
Seton Hall (20-16, 4-4) picked up where they left off offensively last night, striking for two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and it only took three batters. Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) and Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) drew back-to-back walks to open the inning. Junior Al Molina (Freehold, N.J.) followed with a two-RBI double to center field to give The Hall a 2-0 lead.
The Pirates' lead however, was short-lived as Georgetown responded with a pair of runs on a two-run triple by Ryan Weisenberg in the top of the second to tie the score.
Turning Point:
With the game tied at two, the Pirates took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Poduslenko reached second base on a throwing error by the Hoya second baseman to begin the inning. Ramiz followed with an RBI double to right field to give the Pirates a 3-2 lead. With one out, freshman Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.) fired a double to right-center field, which scored Ramiz. With two outs, junior Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J.) singled to right field to drive in Toke with the Pirates' third run of the inning, and extend The Hall's advantage to 5-2.
Inside the Numbers:
- Seton Hall starter Cullen Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.) earned the victory and allowed two runs over five innings with seven strikeouts and four walks.
