Pirates Head Back To Texas For Bearkat Classic

HUNSTVILLE, Texas - Looking to build off a 3-1 start, the Seton Hall softball team heads south once again this weekend to take part in the Bearkat Softball Classic hosted by Sam Houston State. The Pirates will play four games in two days on Feb. 16 and 17 against Northern Colorado, the host Bearkats, Wichita State and No. 4 Washington.Â
The Pirates won three of four in the Lonestar State last weekend, picking up wins against Abilene Christian, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and UTSA at the UTSAÂ Softball Classic. Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week for her efforts in San Antonio, while Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) earned a spot on the BIG EAST weekly honor roll.Â

- The Pirates were led offensively in the opening weekend by Arteaga, who hit .636 with two home runs and six RBIs
- Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) also had a strong showing in San Antonio, batting .500 with a home run, four RBIs and five runs scored
- Rookie Payton Beaver (Lake Stevens, Wash.) hit .333 in her first weekend of collegiate action and Alyssa Prukop (Coto de Caza, Calif.) knocked in three runs
- In the circle Camp holds a 2-0 record and a 0.50 ERA after a great opening weekend, striking out 16 in two complete game efforts
- As a team, the Pirates are hitting .297 and have stolen 10 bases in four games

- The Bears are 3-2 on the year, picking up wins over Loyola, Wright State and IUPUI at hte Total Control Softball Tournament last weekend
- Jordyn Wiatrak leads UNC with a .429 average and six RBIs, while Lauren Paige and Mady Young are both batting .417 on the young season
- Valeria Vidal has made three starts in the circle, striking out 12 and pitching to a 1.24 ERA in 17.0 innings

- The Bearkats went 1-3 last weekend at Texas State's Bobcat Classic, splitting with Portland State and dropping two to the host Bobcats
- Taylar Fuselier is hitting .364 for SHSU, while Brooke Malia checks in at .333 with a team-high three RBIs
- The Bearkats have used four different hurlers through four games and hold a team ERA of 3.63
- Wichita State
- The Shockers are 2-2 this season after picking up wins over Tennessee Tech and Marshall at Auburn's Plainsman Invite
- Bailee Nickerson hit two home runs and drove in five runs during the opening weekend of action
- Three Shocker pitchers have combined to post a 3.15 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 26.2 innings
- No. 4 Washington
- The Huskies hold a 5-0 record after a perfect run through the Peterson Hotels Invitational in Peoria, Ill. and are ranked No. 4 in the US TODAY/NFCA Coaches Poll
- Washington out-scored its five opponents by a total margin of 70-3 in opening weekend action
- Kirstyn Thomas hit five home runs and drove in 16 runs in Peoria, while Taran Alvelo went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 14.0 innings in the circle
