GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Seton Hall softball team (6-5) closed a 3-2 run at the UNCG Invitational with a 9-7 win in a slugfest against ACC foe Virginia (6-8) on Sunday morning. The Pirates finished with 14 hits in the triumph and saw seven players either score or knock in a run.

Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) hit a three-run home run to get the offense rolling in the bottom of the first and The Hall never looked back, scoring additional runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) and Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) each had three hits and Payton Beaver (Lake Stevens, Wash.) drove in two runs as part of a balanced offensive attack.

How It Happened

The Pirates briefly went down 1-0 in the top of the first, but burst back ahead with Walkden's three run home run in the bottom of the opening frame
The Hall tacked on three more runs in the bottom of fourth with RBI singles from Beaver, Arteaga and Barracato
Seton Hall would score two more times in the bottom of the fifth by way of an RBI double from Alyssa Prukop (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and an RBI groundout for Beaver
The Pirates scored one more in the bottom of the sixth when Arteaga scored on a wild pitch
Virginia pushed two unearned runs across to tighten the score in the top of the seventh, but Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) was able to finish off a 1.2 inning save and seal the win

Inside The Numbers

Both sides finished with 14 hits, while The Hall recorded the game's lone two errors
Prukop doubled twice and scored a pair of runs, while Arteaga and Barracato each went 3-for-4
Sara Foster (Laguna Beach, Calif.) drew two walks and scored two times
The Hall went 7-for-18 (.389) with runners in scoring position and 5-for-6 leading off innings

News and Notes

The win marks the second-straight season The Hall has defeated Virginia, also picking up a win against the Hoos at the ECU Pirate Invitational last season
Walkden's home run was her fourth of the season and the 45^th of her career, 14 shy of the program record
Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) got the start in the circle and improved to 4-2 on the year
Head's save was her first of the season

The Pirates kick off an 11-game spring break trip in Florida next weekend when they head to the Madeira Beach Invitational hosted by Eastern Michigan.
