O'Neill, making his second career start, allowed three runs over five innings for the victory. He allowed only two hits and struck out two. Junior Corey Sawyer (Kearny, N.J.) came in to get the final four outs for his third save of the season.
Offensively, The Hall collected a season-high 14 hits, three of which came from Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.). The major run producers were Connor Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa.) and Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Allendale, N.J.), both of which drove in three runs.
What Happened:
Seton Hall got on the scoreboard right away in the top of the first inning. Jerry Huntzinger (Staten Island, N.Y.) led off the game with a walk, moved to third on a pair of wild pitches. With one out, he came in to score on an RBI groundout by Christian Del Castillo (Miami, Fla.). The Hall doubled their lead in the top of the second inning on an RBI double down the left field line by Mike Esposito (Chester, N.J.) to make it 2-0.
After Wagner got on the scoreboard with a run off O'Neill in the bottom of the third inning, the Pirates broke the game open in the top of the fifth. The Hall sent nine men to the plate and scored four runs on five hits, including RBI singles from Hood, Toke and Tyler Shedler-McAvoy, the last of which plated two runs. Shedler-McAvoy's hit put Seton Hall up, 6-1.
The Seahawks didn't go away however, and struck for two runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Pirates' lead in half, 6-3. The Pirates offense didn't stop either though, and a sacrifice fly by Huntzinger extended their advantage to 7-3 in the top of the sixth.
Leading 8-5, Wagner struck for a pair of runs off Pirate reliever Hunter Waldis (Far Hills, N.J.) in the eighth inning, but The Hall got three runs of insurance in the ninth and Sawyer struck out the side in the bottom of the inning to preserve the victory.
