DeVito, Del Castillo Help Pirates Blank Wagner
3/23/2019 7:52:00 PM | Baseball
DeVito was nearly unhittable again, scattering just three hits over seven scoreless innings to pick up his first victory of the young season. He walked three and struck out three.
Del Castillo had a monster game offensively, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored, two doubles, a home run and five RBIs. Both Jerry Huntzinger (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Allendale, N.J.) had a pair of hits and reached base three times. Huntzinger went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, a walk and an RBI. Shedler-McAvoy went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, a walk and a run scored.
What Happened:
After both starting pitchers shut down offenses in the first two innings, the Pirates broke through in the bottom of the third inning. Freshman Steve Grober (Hillsborough, N.J.) led off with a single through the left side, and moved to second on a walk by Huntzinger. Two batters later, Del Castillo launched a three-run home run over the left field fence to give The Hall a 3-0 lead.
Meanwhile, DeVito was brilliant on the mound, only once allowing a Seahawk to reach scoring position.
After Seton hall reliever Blake Espinal (Bronx, N.Y.) tossed a scoreless eighth, the Pirates broke the game open in the bottom of the inning. The Hall sent 11 men to the plate in a seven-run, five-hit inning, including a pair of doubles by Del Castillo to extend its lead to 10-0.
