Hernandez goes 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double

Fort Myers, Fla, -- Freshman catcher Jedier Hernandez (Trenton, N.J.) went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Oscar Murray (Brentwood, Calif.) belted a double of his own in Seton Hall's 4-1 loss to Florida Gulf Coast on Friday.

Hernandez, who now holds a team second-best .316 batting average through 19 at-bats, notched his first extra-base hit as a Pirate, providing The Hall with its lone run in the contest.

On the pitching side, sophomore left-hander Michael Ciminiello (Saint James N.Y.) worked three complete frames and allowed just two hits and striking out four out of the bullpen. He gave up an earned run. Senior Chris Shine (South Plainfield, N.J.) shut down the Eagles for a pair of innings, fanning one and yielding one hit.

How It Happened

The Pirates fell behind early on, allowing two runs to cross home plate in the second inning, and another in the third and sixth respectively. Starting pitcher Hunter Waldis notched three punch-outs and stranded five baserunners in the first three frames but allowed for three of FGCU's four runs to score.

Seton Hall showed fight in the later innings, congesting the basepaths en-route to plating a run. Two first-year players did the heavy lifting, as Michael Callan Moss (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the eighth inning off with an infield single. Hernandez's double ensued allowing Moss to score all the way from first base. The freshman battery put together Seton Hall's first run, which would prove to be their only score of the night.

Despite Murray's double in the top of the ninth, Seton Hall could not build any last-minute heroics.
