Omaha, Neb. — Despite a strong relief effort from junior Chris Shine (South Plainfield, N.J.) and a 3-for-4 evening from classmate Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.), the Seton Hall baseball team fell to Creighton in the series opener of a three-game set, 8-1, on Friday evening.

Shine tossed 3.2 innings out of the bullpen and registered six strikeouts. Hack accounted for three of the Pirates' four hits and later scored in the eighth innings.

How It Happened

The contest started off with promise for the Pirates where, in the top of the first inning, Hack reached on an infield single and junior Jonathan Luders (Lynnfield, Mass.) hit a double to left field that put two runners in scoring position. However, Seton Hall couldn't capitalize as the next two Pirates were retired.

Creighton scored two runs in the home half of the first, one run in the second and three more in the third to go ahead 6-0. Shine came on in relief in the third and navigated a rocky frame. He retired the next six Bluejays in order and worked out of a jam in the sixth, keeping the Creighton offense quiet.

The Bluejays tacked on two more runs in the seventh to extend their lead to 8-0 before the Pirates got their first run of the game in the top of the eighth. With one out, Hack doubled to right field and advanced to third on a ball that went to the back stop. Luders grounded out to the third baseman but it was enough to plate Hack as the Pirates tallied their lone run of the game
