Alexander was one of four Pirates to have a multi-hit day. Her home run came in the fifth inning and was a moonshot to left center.
UConn swept the series from the Pirates, who fall to 17-20 overall, 6-12 in the BIG EAST.
Prior to the game, Seton Hall honored its four seniors -- Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas), Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.), Cadyn Ehrenberg (Fremont, Wisc.) and Marisa Pla (San Clemente, Calif.) -- in a ceremony.
How It Happened
UConn jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but the Pirates battled back on two occasions. Alexander had an RBI single in the second inning, and her pinch-runner, junior Miranda Arruda (Pawcatuck, Conn.) executed a delayed double steal to score the second run of the inning to make it a 4-2 game.
After the Huskies jumped up to an 8-2 lead, it was a pair of seniors leading the comeback. Allender stroked a triple to left field, and Barracato drove her home with a sharp single up the middle. Barracato then scored on an infield single from freshman Jenna Blevins (Flat Rock, Mich.). The Pirates were down four and had the bases loaded with no outs but could not score any further.
Alexander then homered to lead off the fifth inning to cut the deficit to three, 8-5.
However, UConn took advantage of some Seton Hall miscues in the sixth inning. The first six Huskies to the plate did not hit the ball out of the infield, but two errors contributed to two runs, and then Sami Barnett blew the game open with a grand slam.
