Â
Saint Peter's plated a run in the top of the first, but the Pirates' pitching shut down the Peacocks the rest of the way. The Hall tied the game on Viera's solo shot to lead off the bottom of the second and took the lead on an RBI single by Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.).
Â
Viera went 3-for-4 with a home run a stolen base and three runs scored. Pokrovsky was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Hack reached base three times, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a stolen base.
Â
Starter Anthony Ehly (Glenside, Pa.) allowed only one run on two hits over 4.0 innings with five strikeouts and only two walks. Carter Kelsey (Westport, Conn.), Aaron Groller (Harleysville, Pa.) and Dom DiRado (Vestal, N.Y.) limited the Peacocks to just one hit over the final four sparkling innings of relief.
Â
How It Happened:
Ehly allowed a sacrifice fly to plate the game's first run in the top of the first inning, but was dominant thereafter. The freshman retired eight straight after allowing the lone run and left after four innings having allowed only two hits.
Â
Viera tied the game with a booming solo shot to centerfield to lead off the bottom of the second. With two outs and the bases empty, the Pirates rallied for the go-ahead run. Back-to-back singles by Mark McNelly (Limerick, Pa.) and Nick Bisaccia (New Providence, N.J.) and put runners on the corners. Hack followed with a hard liner off Saint Peter's pitcher Zach Frasher and McNelly scored to give The Hall a 2-1 advantage.
Â
Pokrovsky led off the fourth inning with a solo blast to left-centerfield to extend The Hall's lead to 3-1. The next inning, Viera singled with two outs, stole second base and scored the Pirates' fourth run on an RBI single by Pokrovsky. The Hall tacked on a fifth and final run in the seventh on a throwing error by Saint Peter's catcher. Viera doubled to lead off, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and when the catcher's throw to third sailed wide, scored easily.
Â
Saint Peter's loaded the bases with only one out in the top of the eighth inning, but DiRado entered and was able to strand all three. DiRado earned the save.
